The South Bend Transportation Club held their 83rd Annual Dinner on Wednesday, May 2, 2007. The event took place at Windsor Park in the Edison Lake Parkway, Mishawaka, IN. As always, it was a very relaxing and eventful evening. There were nearly 200 people in attendance.
The theme for the evening was "Salute our Soldiers - the Real Hoosier Heroes". The guest speaker for the evening was Major General R. Martin Umbarger, the Adjutant General of Indiana. Major General Umbarger's primary focus is to lead the Indiana Army and Air National Guard. He is also in charge of Indiana's Homeland Security and Emergency Management. The dinner also served as the kick off for the ESGR'S (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) Job Fair which took place on Saturday, May 5th. The ESGR's mission is to build relationships between employers and today's military.
The evening started with a social hour followed by dinner.
President John DeCloedt introduced Chaplain, Captain D. Hagur who lead us in the Invocation.
After the prime rib dinner, John introduced the officers, board members and past Presidents (in attendance). An award was then given to the person of the year. This is an award the club does every year recognizing a person in the community that not only stands out in the business world, but also is a giving and generous person. Jeff Curry of Express One introduced the 2007 recipient, Mike Welch, also of Express One.
The Master of Ceremonies was Veteran sportscaster, Bob Nagle. Nagle as always, was very entertaining. Nagle then introduced Dan Pence of the ESGR who introduced our guest speaker, Major General R. Martin Umbarger
To close the evening, The South Bend Transporation Club, Inc. was pleased to donate $2,000 to the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund, Inc. which was presented to Major General R. Martin Umbarger.
